With the second pick, of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select a quarterback who can actually shatter the Bears flimsy passing records.
Through his 10 games played this season Mitch Trubisky has 2,469 yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Diving deeper into the numbers Trubisky’s quarterback rating is 97.7.
These numbers may not seem dazzling, but they are on pace for one of the greatest single seasons by a Bears quarterback.
Of quarterbacks with a minimum of 300 attempts, Trubisky is on pace to set the Bears single season QBR record.
Trubisky is currently dealing with a shoulder injury and may miss his start against the Giants, and if the Bears clinch the division early, he probably won’t get many spans week 17. So, I’ve based these numbers of a 14 start season.
Trubisky is currently on pace for:
-28 passing touchdowns
-65.4 completion percentage
-508 rushing yards and
-4 rushing touchdowns
Compared to Bears quarterbacks in NFL history:
-his passing yards would rank 4th
-passing touchdowns tied for 2nd
-completion percentage 2nd
-rushing yards 1st and
-rushing touchdowns tied for 3rd (probably, Pro Football Reference did not have an entry for this and I did a lot of googling but I didn’t search every Bears QB so I’m just going to make an educated guess.)
He may not win MVP, and will have trouble beating out other great quarterbacks for the pro bowl, we may be watching the greatest performance of a Bears quarterback. Especially, when taking into account Trubisky will not pay a full season due to injury.
Lets enjoy some highlights.
